What is the Pensioner's Subsidy?
The Pensionerâ€™s subsidy is granted yearly by the Government of Guyana through the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security to persons who are recipients of the Governmentâ€™s Old Age Pension. This subsidy assists eligible GWI customers with paying their water bills.
*Customers of Georgetown are granted $11,880 yearly.
*Customers outside of Georgetown are granted $8,976 yearly.

*Any registered Government of Guyana Pensioner ( Old Age Pensioner - age 65 and above);

How is the Pensionerâ€™s Subsidy applied?
John Public is a Georgetown customer:
His water bill amounts to $21,000
He will receive a subsidy of $11,880
His subsidy will be deducted from his total balance ($21,000-$11,880 = $9,120)
John Public is required to pay $9,120.
John Doe is an out of Georgetown customer:
His water bill amounts to $13,800
He will receive a subsidy of $8,976
His subsidy will be deducted from his total balance ($13,800-$8,976 = $4,824)
John Doe is required to pay $4,824.
(Note: A pensioner can be disconnected for non-payment .)
*The pensionerâ€™s subsidy only covers one property;
*The water bill must be in the pensionerâ€™s name before the subsidy is granted;
*The subsidy is only granted when a customer attains the age of 65. It will not cover any arrears owed prior to the customer
attaining the age of 65;
*The subsidy is only granted to Government of Guyana Pensioners ( An Old Age Pensioner who is age 65 and above);
*The subsidy is only granted to the address stated on the pensionerâ€™s voucher;
*The Pensionerâ€™s subsidy is not an exemption. A pensioner must pay any arrears that exceed the granted subsidy;
*The Pensionerâ€™s Subsidy is granted to both domestic and commercial GWI customers who are Government of Guyana Pensioners;
*The subsidy will cease upon the death of the Pensioner.
